In town this week – The Bronx

There’s an argument that punk rock is a strictly 20th century thing, one that’s long lost it’s voice to less straightforward, more idealistic music. The Bronx are part of a rebuttal which includes Idles amongst other British outfits, with the LA quintet proudly at the more orthodox end of the scale.

That said they do have a sideline as a Mariachi band and each of their five albums has been eponymously named, but you will know them by singer Matt Caughthran’s gargling with nails and kerosene voice, one that takes few prisoners especially at their ear and chest pumelling live shows. After a riotous turn at Slam Dunk in the city last year, they’re back again headlining the Key Club.

You can read a review of their second album here. To whet your appetite here’s a clip of them in action:

The Bronx play the Key Club on Tuesday, then:

Birmingham @Mama Roux’s 17/1

Cardiff @Clwb Llr Bach 18/1

Kingston @The Fighting Cocks 19/1
