Nick Hodgson – Live In Leeds

What price a homecoming? Nick Hodgson has trod the boards in Leeds many times as one fifth of the Kaiser Chiefs, but we live in a world increasingly where time is short and memories likewise; what might’ve gotten you the keys to the city ten years ago now probably doesn’t even get you a rain check on the two drink minimum.

At least he has Tell Your Friends with him now, an album of ever-so-slightly raffish guitar pop that leans heavily on the singer-songwriter archetypes of the last century and goes against the grain in with a familiar sense of mischief.

It’s a record that deserves more exposure than its received to date and one which is organic enough to be tinkered with and given a few more rough spots live. The line up even has a keyboard player who looks a “bit” like Peanut, whilst renditions of Oh My God and I Predict A Riot are greeted as you would expect.
